A great way for people to come to terms with a personal issue is to find comfort and solace from knowing someone else has been through the same or a similar ordeal. It is especially effective when that connection happens to involve famous people–sports stars, actors, world leaders, etc.–as it erases the notion of invincibility in these people that are admired around the globe and places normal people on an equal footing. For what ever reason, it just makes people feel good knowing that celebrity X has the same issue. This coping mechanism is also effective with sexual issues like impotence. Luckily for men suffering from impotence there are plenty of examples of famous men–both historically and presently–that have been known to suffer from cases of impotence.
In fact, one of the most famous–and most powerful–men in history has been alleged to have suffered from impotence: Napoleon. Many people have stated the case that the lack of progeny between the famous French military leader and his wife Josephine was the result of a bout of impotence. Other historical figures that may have had occurrences of impotence include artist John Ruskin and novelist D.H. Lawrence. The hard-drinking playwright W.C. Fields was also known to have recurring sexual issues, including impotence. Whether that was due to all the whiskey he was known to consume is still uncertain.
The famous men of today are much more open about their bouts with impotence. In fact, some of them have decided to cash in on it by starring in advertisements for male enhancing drugs like Viagra. Former Senator Bob Dole made quite a stir when he started appearing in frequent television ads for Viagra not long after a failed presidential bid. Another male celebrity that has been very open about his incidents of impotence and use of Viagra is none other than Hugh Hefner. He has openly admitted that Viagra has helped him continue living like a playboy.
